CRWS supported the development of a testing methodology to assess braking performance under operational conditions, contributing to ALSTOM’s study of a DRAPEAU-designed convoy for the REM project.
The project focused on evaluating safe operating, traction, and braking conditions for a convoy transporting platform screen door modules. The procedure covered static and dynamic braking tests on level track and a 4.88% grade near Technoparc, along with traction tests on level track.
Project Scope:
-
Assess static and dynamic braking performance.
-
Evaluate traction performance on level track.
-
Test braking on a 4.88% grade.
-
Assess air-brake performance under varying loads.
How does CRWS help?
CRWS’s contribution focused on a methodology for evaluating a shuttle wagon coupled with two Drapeau trailers on flat, straight track. The static braking configuration paired the shuttle wagon with one trailer to form a two-vehicle set.
Testing Under Operational Conditions
The methodology specified that the shuttle wagon’s traction control systems—including air knives, sanders, and the high/low rail-pressure switch—remain active during testing to assess braking behaviour under operational conditions.
