A Defining Moment in Canadian Rail
CRWS Launches Restoring the Tshiuetin Fleet: A Landmark Documentary (Part 1)
Montreal, QC – April 28th, 2026
A project of this scale does not come around often. And when it does, it deserves to be documented.
Canadian Railway Services (CRWS), in collaboration with Morelli Design Transport and RailGD, and in close partnership with Tshiuetin Rail Transportation, proudly announces the release of:
Restoring the Tshiuetin Fleet | Railcar Refurbishment Documentary – Part 1
This first installment captures the technical backbone of a transformative railcar refurbishment project, one that is redefining how legacy fleets can be reimagined for the future.
Led by CRWS, the initiative focuses on extending the life of critical passenger railcars through advanced mechanical upgrades, modern design integration, and refined refurbishment techniques, all executed with a deep respect for operational realities and cultural significance.
Through a behind-the-scenes lens, the documentary offers an inside look at:
- Passenger railcar restoration at an industrial scale
- Fleet life-extension strategies grounded in engineering precision
- The integration of industrial design with real-world rail performance
- Cross-functional collaboration between engineering, design, and operations teams
But this is only part of the story.
While Part 1 is rooted in technical execution, it lays the foundation for something far greater.
The Tshiuetin railway plays a critical role in connecting remote and Indigenous communities, serving as an essential corridor for mobility, access, and economic continuity. The work being done today will directly impact the reliability, safety, and experience of those who depend on it every day.
This project is not simply about restoring railcars. It is about reinforcing a lifeline.
A second chapter of the documentary, currently in development, will shift focus to the community impact, capturing the human stories, lived experiences, and long-term benefits once the refurbished cars return to service.
Together, CRWS, Morelli Design Transport, RailGD, and Tshiuetin have brought forward a model of collaboration that bridges engineering excellence, industrial design, and purpose-driven infrastructure.
What is being built here is not only technical.
It is lasting.
